What a great week of weeding, moving compost, planting and building worm bins. Classes visited the Petaluma Water Agency, Shollenberger Park and Helen Putnam Park. We examined wild flowers, seed sprouts, water quality and household compost. It was a fun week of learning out of doors. Thank you to all our parent volunteers and community members who helped out. And a special thanks to Ms. Megna for getting us organized and motivated. We even wrapped up the week with a song at the BEST Assembly--Bug Me Do (to the Beatles' tune, Love Me Do). |

What an amazing day! Thank you to Junior Achievement (especially Lisa Cannon & Scott Loveless), Petaluma Rotary and Clover Stornetta (and Clo the Cow) for supporting this eye-opening day of learning. Our GLT hosted each of 15 JA volunteers who led 5 or 6 lessons in each of our kindergarten to 6th grade classes. Students learned about our community and discussed the difference between Needs and Wants. They looked at maps to understand how goods move across the nation and brainstormed the skills required for various careers. They even tackled larger, global economic issues, like the role of the WTO and debated dilemmas like sea turtles being caught in shrimp boat nets. We are so thankful for the opportunity to bring these concepts to our students. Thank you to all our volunteers! We hope you enjoyed your time at Grant School.

The Jog-a-thon in December coincided with our Track Grand Opening which was such a treat for our school. At this time we are wrapping-up this major construction project and want to acknowledge the Department of Resources, Recycling & Recovery for awarding us a very generous grant that supplied materials to both our track and blacktop. The Cal Recycle grant moved 22,627 tires out of the landfill and transformed them into a comfortable, beautiful running and playing surface for our school. Thank you Cal Recycle! |

GLT is hosting a Winter Food Drive for the Petaluma Kitchen. We are hoping to fill the barrel many times for hungry families in Petaluma. As of Monday, January 30th we have filled it once already! GLT will collect non-perishable food from classrooms on a daily basis. The food drive ends on Valentine's Day--it's our heartfelt gift to hungry people in Petaluma. |
