Grant School Students Reach Goal of Reading 100 Million Words!

posted May 4, 2010, 9:12 AM by Catina Haugen

Students at Grant School rose to the challenge of reading a total of 100 million words during the 2009-10 school year.  All of the school’s students were recognized collectively for their achievement at a morning assembly at 8am on Wednesday, April 21st in the Grant School Multi Use room. Last fall the school’s librarian, Alice Crysdale, set a goal for the student body to read at least 100 million words by the end of the school year.  Students across all grade levels eagerly rose to the challenge and met their goal by February.  Meeting the challenge inspired many students to read more than ever before, with several students reading in excess of 1 million words each. In recognition of their accomplishment, each student received a bookmark from the Grant PTA, and Clover Stornetta treated each child to an ice cream cup.  An appearance by the Clover Stornetta mascot “Clo the Cow” was made.
